On September 8, 2015, The Incredible Hulk Coaster was closed to start a nearly year long enhancement of one of Universal Orlando’s best roller coasters. On August 4, 2016, it reopened and it was well worth the wait.
When describing what changed with the update to The Incredible Hulk Coaster, it is easier to actually start with what didn’t change. The only thing that remained the same as before besides the location is the actual layout of the track. As soon as Hulk closed, pieces of track started getting removed and replaced. The end result of this process is a much smoother experience. The Hulk used to jostle guests around, but now the entire experience is much more pleasant.
Let’s get into the nitty gritty. The first change you’ll notice as you’re walking towards Hulk is probably the sound coming from the attraction. Before the refurb, The Incredible Hulk Coaster could be heard throughout the park as the cars shot out of the launch tube and raced around the track. Hulk is much more quiet now than it was previously, with one exception – the Hulk roar.
The brand new marquee features a larger than life Hulk lifting actual pieces of original track and the queue leads you through General Ross’ lab where volunteers are put through the “Hulk-a-fication” process, exposing them to Gamma radiation in the Gamma core. When it is your time to board the brand new ride vehicles with on-board speakers blasting a new original soundtrack by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, you’ll be sent into the Gamma core and shot off at 40 mph through the rest of your thrilling experience. New effects have been added in the launch tube and if you ride at night then you may notice some of the cooler modifications to the ride vehicle.
To summarize, the new Incredible Hulk Coaster is so awesome, even Stan Lee approves. In fact, watch “him” ride it now!
