2018 was an epic year for Halloween Horror Nights. Popular houses like Poltergeist and Stranger Things saw massive lines night after night. As for scare zones, there was one that stood out above the rest – Killer Klowns from Outer Space. This year, Universal will be brining the Klowns out of the streets and into their very own house!
While the scare zone last year was just a taste of the Klowns, the house will be on an entirely different level. The house requires even more Klowns than the scare zone had, so new characters will be introduced including baby Klowns, Boco, and Klownzilla.
According to Universal, the house will transport guests to the sleepy and ultimately doomed small town of Crescent Cove where we’ll find an eerie amusement park closed for the season. There we’ll find ourselves in an otherworldly circus tent where we’ll find the Klowns performing their antics. We’ll see the cotton candy cocoon storage room as we make our way through the Big Top Space Ship and maybe even witness the Klowns turning guests into the cotton candy cocoons.
Universal’s official blog goes into more detail by saying:
Throughout the house your sense of fear will be triggered by your sense of smell as you encounter strong whiffs of familiar fairground fare like sweet cotton candy, stale buttery popcorn and ice cream. Don’t be fooled though, these otherwise pleasant aromas are a sign of the murderous gang of klowns that awaits you as you move from scene to scene.
Try to evade them or you’re likely to end up captured in one of their cotton candy cocoons and doomed to a terrible fate. There will be no escaping the big teeth of the Big Top.
This isn’t the first time that Universal has taken a scare zone and transformed it into a house. In fact, Universal did it in 2018 with a Trick ‘r Treat house, based on the cult film, which was a scare zone in 2017. Many fans of Halloween Horror Nights were hoping that Universal would give Killer Klowns from Outer Space the same treatment and now it is official!
Halloween Horror Nights kicks off September 6 and runs through November 2. The current house lineup includes Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Ghostbusters, Stranger Things, Universal Monsters, Nightingales: Blood Pit, Depths of Fear, and Yeti: Terror of the Yukon with 3 houses left to be announced as well as 5 scare zones and entertainment. Killer Klowns from Outer Space will also be at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood which begins September 13 and runs through November 3.
