Universal Orlando planning new hotel?

Universal Orlando has filed paperwork for a new hotel planned on their property. The new location would be southwest of their newest hotel, Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, which is scheduled to open in July.

The website Orlando Growth Spotter says that a Administrative Master Plan with the code name Project 927 was filed with the City of Orlando on June 7 and describes a 600-room hotel with parking. City planning staff discussing the project referenced a parking garage, not just a normal lot.   This would be the smallest hotel on Universal’s property; Sapphire Falls will have 1,000 rooms, Cabana Bay has 1,800, Royal Pacific has 1,000, Portofino Bay has 750, and the Hard Rock has 650.

The address of the proposed construction is 6731 Adventure Way. It is not currently a physical address, but is a 12.98-acre piece of land on the east side of Adventure Way. This area is currently used for construction crew parking for the Sapphire Falls Resort construction team.

It appears that this is the last section of usable land that Universal owns on the north side of I-4 next to its theme parks.

Other features that look possible according to the plan are an elevated bridge to connect the hotel to either other neighboring hotels or the Volcano Bay water park. There will be a large mechanical/service tower in the main building and a landscaped area between this hotel and Sapphire Falls.

Universal Orlando has not yet commented on this filing.
