Universal Parks show strong numbers in Comcast second-quarter 2016 earnings

NBCUniversal numbers are down in 2016 despite a strong presence from their theme parks. Today, Comcast revealed their 2nd quarter numbers, showing good signs from their Theme Park division.

Theme Parks revenue for the 2nd quarter was $1,136 billion, an increase of 47% from $773 million in 2015. Year to date revenue (ending June 30, 2016) increased 51.8% from $1,424 billion in 2015 to $2,162 billion in 2016. Pro forma growth accounting for the 51% acquisition of Universal Studios Japan reports a 10.6% increase in revenue in the 2nd quarter and a 10.2% increase in year to date revenue.

Operating cash flow tells a similar story showing 2nd quarter increases from $334 million in 2015 to $469 million in 2016 – a 40.5% increase with a pro forma operating cash flow increase of 5.3%. Year to date increases were up 46% – $578 million in 2015 to $844 million in 2016 with a pro forma operating cash flow increase of 4.4%.

These numbers can be attributed to the VERY successful opening of Universal Studios Hollywood’s The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. However, NBCUniversal numbers are down due to their filmed entertainment. Universal hasn’t had a major box office hit in the 2nd quarter of 2016 like they did last year in the 2nd quarter with Furious 7 and Jurassic World.
