The Secret Life of Pets taking over Universal Orlando

Well, The Secret Life of Pets isn’t taking over Universal Orlando yet, but that day is getting closer. Earlier this week, NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke was quoted at an investor conference saying Universal was in fact designing an attraction on the upcoming Illumination Entertainment movie, which opens in theaters on July 8.

Illumination Entertainment is the production company behind Despicable Me 1 & 2 and Minions. With a track record like that, it isn’t hard to see why Universal is going ahead with designing an attraction before box office numbers are in – something that Disney hasn’t done lately and has been harshly criticized for, especially with how long it took for Frozen to have a real presence in its parks.

Right now there is no word on how long it will be until The Secret Life of Pets ride debuts at Universal Parks, or where it will be located, or if it will include a heavy usage of animatronics and little screens as some are speculating. However, Universal is trying to slowly incorporate the movie into Universal Studios Florida and chose Animal Actors on Location! as the place to do so.

Guests lining up to see the animal show will now be treated to an exclusive trailer for The Secret Life of Pets during the pre-show and will also see an exclusive scene from the movie featuring the Pomeranian character, Gidget. If seeing the show isn’t your thing, maybe you’ll enjoy the photo booth located out front of the theater that will allow you to to take pictures with characters from the movie and share them on social media.

If photo booths still aren’t your thing, but your clamoring to see more of The Secret Life of Pets, check out Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular for a special trailer.

Look for The Secret Life of Pets in theaters on July 8.
