Kong is OFFICIALLY coming back to Orlando

It’s official – Kong is coming back to Orlando.

During the 2014 Q4 Comcast Earnings Call, CFO Michael Angelakis slipped the news that a King Kong attraction was coming to Orlando.

Angelakis was discussing capital investments when he let the news leak. Angelakis said, “In 2015, NBC Universal’s capital investment plan will remain relatively stable at 2014’s level, with over half directed to our theme park segment as we continue to invest in attractions, including Harry Potter and the Fast and the Furious attractions in Hollywood and a King Kong attraction in Orlando.”

This level of expansion is no surprise considering revenue from the theme parks is up. Comcast reported revenue rose 29.9% from $566 million in 2013 to 735 million in 2014.

No further details were given about when the King Kong attraction would open, but it is nearly indisputable at this point that the construction in Islands of Adventure between Jurassic Park and Toon Lagoon is the new King Kong attraction.

Kongfrontation closed at Universal Studios Florida in 2002 to make way for Revenge of the Mummy and since then there has been no Kong in the Orlando parks. With Kong: Skull Island opening in 2017, Universal is clearly ready to get the ape back in Orlando.

In 2010, King Kong: 360 3-D opened at Universal Studios Hollywood as part of the Studio Tram Tour and the current speculation is that some of the technical aspects from that attraction will be replicated in the new Kong experience at Universal Orlando.

Check back for more updates on the new King Kong attraction coming to Universal Orlando as new details are announced.
