Hogwarts Castle Projection Show Coming to Universal Studios Japan

Things could be looking up for a new nighttime show at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure now that Universal Studios Japan has announced that they will be getting a large-scaled night show in their Wizarding World. The announcement was made via a press release and confirms that on April 21, 2017 the new show will debut at the park. The release goes on to say:

Guests will be immersed in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World as the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry fight off Dementors who descend across the Black Lake for an unforgettable show that’ll leave fans surprised and excited.

The new show will debut just before the Golden week holidays in Japan and right now it is only scheduled to run through November 5, 2017. Here is a more in depth description of the show:

The night show in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will use magnificent projection mapping to bring the magic and wonder of Harry Potter to life in a way never before seen at Universal Studios Japan. The immersive show, that will leave fans in awe, unfolds above the Black Lake with Hogwarts castle serving as the backdrop and focal point. The incredible technology will brilliantly light up the night sky as Dementors fly ominously along the castle.

Also debuting that day will be new Wand Magic locations for guests to cast spells with their Interactive Wands.

This news is very exciting as rumors have been swirling for months now that a nighttime projection show would be coming to both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood. It is only a matter of time now before a show is announced for the domestic parks, but the question will be whether or not the shows will all be the same. A show based around Dementors seems very dark, but they are also a key part of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, so it could still happen.
