Starting September 8, you can stop saying “Hulk smash” and start saying “Hulk down,” because The Incredible Hulk Coaster will be non-operational for nearly a year. Why close one of the most popular rides at Islands of Adventure you ask? Well, clearly Disney has finally acquired theme park rights to Marvel this side of the Mississippi and will start stripping the iconic green coaster of any Marvel resemblance.
In reality, The Incredible Hulk Coaster is just going through a change that will leave it… incredible. The official blog of Universal Orlando Resort reports that Hulk “will be getting some great, new enhancements to its storyline, ride vehicles and overall experience.”
What this really means is several things. First, the queue is getting a complete transformation, bringing the Hulk up-to-date with immersive theming. Second, parts of the track will be replaced and worked on, because it is a 16-year-old roller coaster that needs some TLC every now and then. Third, the launch is going to be completely re-done. Finally, new trains will be added to The Incredible Hulk Coaster, which should be lighter and help prevent issues like trains overshooting the brakes.
Although rumors originally reported that The Incredible Hulk Coaster may be open at times during this enhancement, it is clear as day now that it will be closed for an extended period. So, don’t come to Islands of Adventure and expect it to be open. One day…
