It may not come as a shock to anyone who has been following rumors surround Halloween Horror Nights 29 at Universal Orlando Resort, but Ghostbusters has been officially announced as a house for the 2019 event! It almost seems too good to be true, but Universal will make this classic film come to life on its 35th anniversary and take you right into the original 1984 movie.
Universal announced on their official blog:
In this haunted house, you’ll be transported to the streets of New York as the rift between worlds opens, releasing ghoulish spirits, hideous specters and ectoplasm-dripping phantasms in every shape and size. Come face-to-face with the voracious Slimer, the all-power Gozer the Gozerian, Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and more.
Peter, Ray, Egon and Winston will have to save the day as these paranormal creatures materialize in unexpected places – but will their proton packs be enough?
Some of the scenes that have been teased for the house include the New York Public Library, which is the first location that the Ghostbusters encounter and interact with a ghost, and the Temple of Gozer, which plays an iconic role in the climax of the movie.
If you’re wondering how Universal will manage to do the movie justice, all you have to do is look back at their track record with iconic movies turned into houses. An American Werewolf in London and Halloween are perfect examples of how the Halloween Horror Nights team can faithfully adapt a movie into a house, along with other popular houses in the past like The Shining and The Exorcist – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
One thing is guaranteed… This house will surely be one of the most popular houses at the event right alongside the Stranger Things house, so start preparing for insane lines.
Halloween Horror Nights returns to Universal Orlando September 6 through November 2. Ghostbusters is the sixth of ten houses announced for the event. Other houses include Stranger Things, Universal Monsters, Nightingales: Blood Pit, Depths of Fear, and Yeti: Terror of the Yukon. Five scare zones and live entertainment still have not been announced. Ghostbusters will also be featured at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood starting September 13 through November 3.
