Hot Diggity Dog – Universal CityWalk’s Hot Dog Hall of Fame

Baseball is a true American pastime. Even growing up in Canada I knew Americans loved baseball. That’s what the movies taught me at least. That and Julia Roberts is America’s sweetheart.

The idea of sitting in the stands of a baseball game eating a hot dog and cheering on the home team will bring thoughts of Americana to anyone’s mind. Little gives that image more. Well, maybe a bald eagle holding an American flag with fireworks going off in the background, but Disney has that image covered in their World Showcase. At Universal Orlando’s CityWalk, they have the Hot Dog Hall of Fame. This awesome quick-service is a must stop for any baseball fan.

The Hot Dog Hall of Fame can be found across from Antojitos and The Groove. It might take you a moment to find it, but it’s 100% worth the search. Just look for an area with a big screen playing sports, tables and a little stadium seating area. You can choose to sit in the ballpark seating or at regular table seating. This place is like a hot dog stand on steroids. Good thing Universal doesn’t drug test.

If you choose to sit in the stadium seating, keep in mind it can be a bit of a balancing act. Plus, I wouldn’t do it if you are a large family. You will all be sitting in a row and not facing each other. It makes it harder to have a conversation. With that being said, it sure is fun!

Now let’s talk about the team players: the food. The menu is a collection of specialty hot dogs from across the USA. They have taken the nation’s most iconic franks from across hometown stadiums. How much fun is that? It’s easy to see that the company took care in replicating these hot dogs.

Let’s look at each delicious options at-bat. Prepare for your mouth to water.

1. Chicago – $9.99

A Chicago-style hot dog is an all-beef dog on a poppy seed bun. It’s topped with neon relish, sports peppers, diced white onions, tomatoes, celery salt and a pickle on top. It’s a lot of toppings, but you are a champ and will love it.

2. Colorado – $8.99

The Colorado starts with a Nathan’s Famous hot dog, grilled peppers & onions, and sauerkraut. This one is super popular. Its full flavor will satisfy any player’s stomach. I think this one is so popular because it’s a pretty safe option. If you like sauerkraut, you will love this one.

3. Kansas City – $9.99

Starting with a Vienna all-beef dog, they pile on the pulled pork, coleslaw, pickles and lots of barbecue sauce on top. How can you not love pulled pork on a hot dog? Those two things separately are tasty. Together they are a grand slam! (I have way more baseball references coming at you.)

4. Boston – $8.99

Numerous people may disagree about what a true Boston hot dog is, but everyone can agree this one is delicious. The version you will find here is an all-beef dog on a New England-style bun. It’s topped with spicy brown mustard, diced onions, and relish. An easy triple.

5. Washington – $9.99

This one has a really interesting mix of toppings. The dog is a Hebrew National dog and is covered in Buffalo sauce, cole slaw, bleu cheese dressing, and celery salt. It’s really light and a great meal. It makes a perfect lunch meal.

6. New York – $8.99

Anyone who has been to New York knows they take their street foods very seriously. This is especially true when it comes to their hot dogs. They keep it simple. Hot Dog Hall of Fame’s hot dog is made with Sabrett all-beef dogs with sauerkraut and mustard. There is no curve ball with this hot dog. Straight, and to the point.

7. Arizona – $9.99

There is a lot going on with this dog. The Vienna all-beef dog is covered in smoked bacon, pinto beans, grilled peppers, grilled onions, and cheese. Can you just taste it now? Make sure to try it, it might just steal a place in your heart.

8. Milwaukee – $8.99

This bratwurst sausage over a hoagie roll is all the amazingness you are expecting. It’s topped with grilled onions and brown mustard. It’s a total home run.

9. Detroit – $9.99

Who doesn’t love a chili dog? I know I do. A Koegel dog covered in Abbott’s Coney Chili and diced onions are my idea of food heaven. You may need some extra napkins because this monster is messy!

The great part is that all the options are really delicious. The nine choices come with fries. A little warning about the fries is that they are incredibly salted.  They are also pretty standard fast food fries. Also, don’t forget to take a look at the additional toppings, Italian sausages, two-foot dog and their other great options.

Hot Dog Hall of Fame is open late and a great outdoor space for a beer and watching a game. It’s open from 11 am to 11 pm Sunday through Thursday and 11 am to 1 am on Friday through Saturday. CityWalk is full of sit-down restaurants and places to get alcohol, so it’s great to have an easy place that’s relaxing and relatively inexpensive. It’s the World Series winner of CityWalk’s quick service restaurants.
